Smiling Warrior

"Smiling Warrior"

On March 24, 2018, a gun control protest march took place as part of the “March For Our Lives” campaign that began after the Parkland, Florida shooting. The shooting took place during the afternoon of February 14, 2018, at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. 17 students and faculty were killed. The march was organized by students and involved student speakers from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. This photograph was taken as the crowd marched from Harriet Island to the State Capitol through downtown Saint Paul. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was among the demonstrators. He described the marching students as “smiling warriors.” As of Christmas 2018, no new gun control legislation has been enacted. On the morning of the march, the temperature was just below freezing. As I was trying to get ahead of the marchers I saw this girl holding a sign while on her father's shoulders and ran to get a picture. After taking that photo I knew that it would be my favorite.

Crashed Ice

Crashed Ice

This photo shows the beginning of a Crashed Ice race at Buck Hill. The light behind the skaters creates movement and intensity that the photo would not have been the same without.
My lens' focus motor froze soon after taking this picture.

Fly Fisherman

"Fly Fisherman"

A few minutes before this photo was taken I was in my backyard looking at the sky. It was during the summer when I could drop everything, grab my bike, and ride down to Lake Harriet to take pictures of the sunset.

Neon Sign

Memphis

One of the first images I captured using my nifty fifty. This was taken on Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee.
The boulevard is full of bright lights and neon signs.
My sister posed in an alleyway where a streetlight perfectly backlit her hair.

Stone Arch Bridge

Stone Arch Bridge

This photo features my best friend Ethan Isert only a few days after he got a new longboard. He decided to ride it from his house, near the Armatage neighborhood to downtown Minneapolis. The journey took nearly three hours through a sprinkle of rain.
